Feyenoord and Johan Cruyff Institute have reached an agreement to develop, strengthen and inspire each other in the field of coaching to benefit the youth academy and the students and alumni
Trainers and coaches from the Feyenoord youth academy, the so-called Feyenoord Academy, and 25 students and alumni of the Master in Coaching at the Johan Cruyff Institute are participating in a unique experience, thanks to the collaboration agreement reached by the two entities. They will enjoy two days working together to develop, strengthen and inspire each other in the field of coaching.
Last month, 25 students and alumni of the Master in Coaching visited the professional football club in Rotterdam. The first day of the two-day activity was organized partly at Feyenoord’s stadium De Kuip and partly at the training complex of Feyenoord Academy, Varkenoord. Stanley Brard, head of youth development, opened the afternoon session with an introduction after which Glenn van der Kraan, head of development phase and alumnus of the Master in Coaching, gave a presentation about all the ins and outs of how the youth academy is managed and their vision on talent development. Overall, the day consisted of several presentations, observing the training sessions on the pitch and a feedback session.
Soon, the coaches of Feyenoord Academy will travel to Amsterdam to immerse themselves in Johan’s ideas about coaching for the second day of the activity. Professors of the Master in Coaching will teach the coaches ‘Cruyffian’ techniques in different coaching themes.
Johan’s vision on coaching, namely that you can only coach others if you can coach yourself, is implemented in the master’s program on a daily basis. An important part of this is taking your own responsibility. The top Dutch club sees common ground in this vision and the potential to learn from it. At the same time, the expertise and success of the football club is very educational for our students and alumni in their own development as coaches.
