The Johan Cruyff Institute has introduced the players of professional football club ADO Den Haag to its academic programs
Last week, the Johan Cruyff Institute gave the players of the first team at ADO Den Haag a short presentation about its academic portfolio in sport management, coaching, football business and sport marketing, along with an explanation of the different study programs at the Johan Cruyff Institute and the Cruyffian way of teaching.
The information session for the players of the Dutch football club supports Johan’s vision, namely to support athletes both during and after their sports career by giving them the right knowledge for their professional career.
ADO Den Haag is a fixed value in the Dutch Eredivisie and has won both the national title and the Dutch Cup twice in the club’s history. The team is currently in 13th position in the national competition with players like Beugelsdijk, Immers, Zwinkels en Meijers. Some well-known former ADO players are Dick Advocaat, Aad Mansveld, Lex Schoenmaker and Jens Toornstra, who is also an alumnus of the Johan Cruyff Institute.
Aaron Meijers, captain of ADO Den Haag and alumnus of the Johan Cruyff Academy, thought the presentation was a valuable experience. “It was especially valuable for the players who are already planning to do something besides football, because there were given a clear picture of the various study option possibilities offered by the institute. I believe that studying a course can be perfectly combined with a football career, and the Johan Cruyff Institute takes into account the athlete’s schedules, which is ideal for us. I found my study time very pleasant at the time, because I was able to develop myself off the pitch and it was also very nice to be able to clear my head from time to time and be busy with things other than football.”
Lisette Schmidt, in charge of marketing and communications at the Johan Cruyff Institute Amsterdam, said: “It is great that we were able to share the story of Johan and the Johan Cruyff Institute with the players, because it fits together perfectly with his mission to provide educational support to athletes alongside their professional sports careers. We are grateful to the management of ADO Den Haag for offering us a platform and enabling us to continue Johan’s legacy in this way. We hope to meet the players again in the classrooms of the Johan Cruyff Institute.”
