Johan Cruyff Institute has provided a Cruyffian workshop to the Feyenoord Academy with the aim to boost different coaching techniques
Maarten van Heeswijk, professor of the Master in Coaching at Johan Cruyff Institute, has given a group of 25 coaches and staff members of the Feyenoord Academy new insights into different coaching techniques through a Cruyffian workshop earlier this month. The group of participants consisted of youth trainers, including former international Dirk Kuijt, coordinators and medical staff. Also present was the head of the youth academy, Stanley Brard.
The two-hour workshop, which was organized as part of a teambuilding weekend in Rotterdam, was split into two themes: Coaching & Perceiving and Team Diagram. Among other things, they discussed what coaching is all about, how important perception is, the development phase of a team and what makes a team successful.
Stanley was pleased with the morning session: “It was really good to identify our targets as a team and to start a conversation about it. This helped us get to the core: Why do we do things the way we do? Do we know our goals? Does everyone experience them the same? We have learned that we each experience what we are working on in our own way, that we have different views on what our goals are and that in some cases we know too little about each other.”
Feyenoord Academy is the youth academy of Feyenoord. It has a strong own vision and trains young football players to become professionals. Each year, two talents make the step up to the ‘big Feyenoord’, in accordance with the Academy’s ultimate goal to produce at least half of the first team. Successful football players from the Feyenoord academy are Giovanni van Bronkhorst, Robin van Persie, Jordy Clasie and Leroy Fer, among others. Last summer, the Academy moved to a brand new complex, the new Varkenoord.
