Johan Cruyff Institute joins Women in Football’s GetOnside initiative

In order to promote and facilitate the incorporation of women into management positions in the football industry, Johan Cruyff Institute is contributing a full scholarship for the Master in Football Business Online to the GetOnside campaign

Women’s football is growing in interest, resources, development and recognition around the world, but the pyramid is not growing equally in all its parts. While it has been one of the fastest growing sports in recent years in terms of the number of players, the percentage of management positions held by women is still very low. Johan Cruyff Institute has joined the GetOnside initiative of Women in Football to promote and facilitate the incorporation of women into the management bodies of women’s football based on the best academic training.

Johan Cruyff Institute is offering a full scholarship, valued at almost 8,000 euros, to study the Master in Football Business Online, the first edition of which will start on February 15, 2022. The program, available in English and Spanish, is aimed at women ex-footballers or ex-athletes who want to give a boost to their professional career through academic training; businesswomen who want to specialize in the football industry; or those who already have experience in the sector, but do not have studies in football management and need to update their knowledge of the industry.

Last September marked the one-year anniversary of the launch of FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Program. FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, said at the time: “Women are 50 per cent of the world’s population; we have to do something. We have all made the mistake, and I am the first, in recent years, decades, of seeing women’s football as a copy, a bad copy of men’s football. That is not the case.” Development initiatives by world football’s governing bodies are indispensable. But there is also a need for private initiatives from companies that are committed to women’s football.

To commit is to give opportunities and Johan Cruyff Institute, in its mission to professionalize the sports industry in general and football in particular, and to train new leaders in sport management, joins on this occasion Women in Football and its most inclusive and egalitarian GetOnside campaign.
