Extra edition Master in Coaching with Olympic names

Ten fanatic ‘Cruyff students’ enthusiastically kicked off with the new edition of the Master in Coaching last week. Due to the success of the September edition, which created such great interest, Johan Cruyff Institute decided to start a second program alongside the regular edition.

The kick-off took place in the Frans Otten Stadium in Amsterdam on Thursday January 19th, led by one of our core professors, Maarten van Heeswijk. The first day was dedicated to getting to know each other and personal presentations. During the second day of the two-day class, ‘Observe & Coaching’ was the central theme.

For this edition, we are welcoming some great athletes again. Olympic rower Carline Bouw, who won a silver medal at Rio 2016, will be participating in the program. Olympic sprinter Troy Douglas will also be part of the group for the next ten months. “I want to find out who I am as a coach and I want to be pointed in the right direction,” thus the charismatic trainer, who became part of Ajax’s technical staff some months ago.

Although the Master program focuses on sports coaching, the philosophy of Johan also extends outside the sporting world. For instance, we will also be joined by students who work for the police and commercial businesses. This makes the diversity within the group challenging and interesting.

Over the next ten months, the coaches will work to develop themselves as people so that they can become a better coach for others because, as Johan always said: “You can only coach others if you know how to coach yourself.” The students will complete the program in November.

We wish all the coaches good luck and a lot of fun during this new path.
