ICT tools or Information and Communications Technology, is a term that “is often used as an extended synonym for information technology (IT), but is a more specific term that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.” (Wikipedia)
When talking about the different types of ICT tools we have for data management, there are a couple of steps we need to consider.
- Infoxication: The main one is how to survive infoxication, which is essentially information overload. It refers to the difficulty a person can have understanding an issue and making decisions that can be caused by the presence of too much information.
- Searching: This refers to applying proper search techniques to filter through all the options different search engines can give so you can find what you are looking for.
- Managing: The next logical step after conducting a good search is managing the information acquired.
- Social bookmarking: Part of managing your information from online searches is using online methods such as social bookmarking to add, edit, tag and share your favorite web documents in the most relevant way for you.
