Johan Cruyff Institute and KNSB Education join forces with sustainable coaching workshops

Johan Cruyff Institute will contribute sustainably to the KNSB Education with workshop sessions in the field of coaching, with the aim to give speed skating coaches an extra development push

In early March, Johan Cruyff Institute and the Royal Dutch Speed Skating Federation, the KNSB, will start a sustainable collaboration in the field of coaching for the internal education department. Three workshops for 100 speed skating coaches will be organized, of which the first two will be held as webinars. In the fall, a new session with a different theme will be organized, which then will be offered sustainably.

The theme of the first block is Leadership – Dealing with Diversity. During the three sessions, the participants will be introduced to Johan Cruyff’s vision on coaching with the starting point: ‘You can only coach others if you know how to coach yourself’. From this vision, they will zoom in on leadership around the theme of diversity. The accent will be on how coaches can deal with this better and what lessons they can take away with them. Questions like ‘how do you deal with a diverse group of athletes?’, ‘how do you set up the most effective training when everyone in the group is different?’ and ‘how do you set goals in a diverse group?’ will be looked at.

The first webinar will be held on March 3 and the second one will be on March 31. In April, there will be a workshop at the federation—subject to the COVID-19 measures. This workshop will connect the first two webinars and offers a deeper personal development experience. The sessions will be under the guidance of Henk Verschuur, Henk Groener and Karen Ephraim, respectively, all professors of the Master in Coaching at Johan Cruyff Institute.

KNSB

Marieke Jonker, coordinator of KNSB Education, is pleased with the addition to the portfolio: “As KNSB, we recognize ourselves in the learning model of Johan Cruyff Institute and are therefore very happy with this collaboration. We want to expand the range of training courses with which we can offer our trainers quality at every level. We are convinced that Johan Cruyff Institute can offer this quality improvement and will give our trainers that development push.”

Johan Cruyff Institute and the KNSB have been official partners since 2020 and closely collaborate in the field of personal development and education for all the athletes, coaches and employees of the federation and the students and alumni of the educational institution. The agreement offers, among others, special discounts on the academic programs in the field of sport management, sport marketing and sponsorship, football business and coaching. In addition, the partnership also offers other benefits, such as participation in special case studies, guest lectures, internships and the organization of joint educational activities.

ON CAMPUS AMSTERDAM

Leadership in Coaching

The Leadership in Coaching Program in Amsterdam is developed for everybody (in or outside sports) who seeks self-knowledge and self-development with the aim to improve oneself as a (sport) coach and/or manager. This 10-month program is delivered in Dutch and based on the vision of Johan Cruyff in which sport coaching is more than using tactical and technical knowledge. It is about knowing yourself and developing your own unique coaching style, and to apply that to the players / staff, the team and the environment. We believe that you can only coach others, if you know how to coach yourself.
