Johan Cruyff Institute and the CM.com Circuit Zandvoort, the iconic race track in the history of motorsports in the Netherlands, have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of exchanging and developing talent in sport management. Mariël Koerhuis, general manager of Johan Cruyff Institute, and Jeroen van Iersel, marketing and communications manager of the Zandvoort circuit, met at the facilities of the Dutch track to lay the foundations of what this relationship will mean for both entities.
In its role as an academic institution specialized in management training for the sports industry, through the agreement Johan Cruyff Institute will become an academic training provider of the CM.com Circuit Zandvoort, offering all its staff exclusive discounts on its academic programs in sport management, sport marketing and sponsorship, football business and coaching, taught in online, blended and face-to-face formats. For their part, managers of the Zandvoort circuit will participate in this exchange of knowledge by contributing their experience in webinars that will be open to the entire community of Johan Cruyff Institute students and alumni. The circuit will also inform the academic institution and its students about internship offers whenever there is a vacancy.
Mariël Koerhuis said that “we are particularly proud to formalize this collaboration because it is a circuit that has deep and historical roots in the Dutch sports scene. Now, with the new momentum that the track is experiencing, we hope to add ideas and explore initiatives together, bringing value to both entities.”

“The circuit has 14 turns, a magnificent coincidence,” pointed out Jeroen van Iersel. “Through this partnership, we not only want to share the knowledge and experience we have gained in more than 75 years of racing history at our circuit, but also the innovations and developments we have experienced as an organization in recent years. We are convinced that Johan Cruyff Institute is the perfect partner to help us share our vision and take a step into the future of sport marketing together. Johan said, ‘if you can do something for someone else, you should do it’ and in this sense, we are looking forward to working together and inspiring students and alumni to reach new heights in the sport marketing sector. Through our joint efforts, we can ensure that this new generation of professionals can develop and contribute to the growth of this industry.”

Recently, the students of the Master in Sport Management at Johan Cruyff Institute Amsterdam experienced an unforgettable day at the CM.com Circuit Zandvoort, which included an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the track and two talks, one givenby Jeroen van Iersel himself, on the sporting activity and commercial exploitation that takes place at this emblematic circuit, and the other by fan engagement expert Maarten van Seggelen. The group also had the opportunity to experience the excitement on the track, witnessing live the VRM Voorjaarsraces (sprint races), and to feel the adrenaline rush in the F1 simulator.
The CM.com Circuit Zandvoort is on the F1 World Championship calendar, hosting the Formula One Heineken Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August. Formula One is its star event, but activity at the track is permanent throughout the year with the celebration of a dozen other motor racing championships, congresses and incentive programs, that make Zandvoort an iconic circuit in the history of racing in the Netherlands.
