Edith Bosch, former Olympic judoka, and Mark Bogaerts, global sponsorship manager at Heineken, gave presentations during the celebration
On Tuesday morning, on November 9, the Johan Cruyff College Roosendaal invited its students, alumni, employees and external partners to the Kring Theater in Roosendaal (the Netherlands) to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. The participants enjoyed presentations by Edith Bosch, former Olympic judoka, and Mark Bogaerts, global sponsorship manager at Heineken.
Edith Bosch, alumnus of the Master in Sport Management and former European and World Champion and Olympian, who won a silver medal in Athens and bronze in Beijing and London, talked about her life. As she explained in her autobiography Expeditie Edith, no challenge was too big for her during her judo career, but has she always been happy? She revealed how she dealt with these life challenges.
Mark Bogaerts, global sponsorship manager at Heineken, explained to the audience the ins-and-outs of the company’s sport sponsorship, such as their campaigns around the UEFA Champions League and the Rugby World Cup.
Mariël Koerhuis, international director of the Johan Cruyff Institute, presented a gift on behalf of the entire academic network to Herman Kruis, manager of the Johan Cruyff College, Petra Selten, manager of Zoomvliet College, and Rob Neutelings, chairman of the board of ROC West-Brabant. Both these organizations are host of the Johan Cruyff College Roosendaal.
During the afternoon, all the students of the Johan Cruyff College Roosendaal gathered at the local football stadium, to enjoy some sport activities with a focus on sports for disabled athletes. Later that afternoon, students, alumni, teachers and staff enjoyed a social get-together at the Grand Café Chagall, with live music and entertainment.
The Johan Cruyff College Roosendaal was founded in 2007 to support the athletic and academic development of young, talented adolescents in their dual careers. It opened its doors after the Johan Cruyff Colleges in Amsterdam (2004), and Nijmegen and Groningen (2006), aiming to cover the needs of athletes in the south of the Netherlands. It started off with two classes and now, 10 years later, has its own facilities where it not only offers the programs in ‘Sport & Business’ and ‘Sport & Coaching’ to 145 student-athletes, but also has additional services, such as a sport psychologist and physiotherapist.
