The students of the Master in Sport Management at Johan Cruyff Institute Barcelona & Online enjoyed a three-day study trip, with classes, lectures, visits and leisure time in the Dutch capital
There are still three months of intense work left, but the arrival of the study trip is always an important refreshment point in the race to graduation. This year Amsterdam was the destination for the Barcelona and online students of the Master in Sport Management at the Johan Cruyff Institute.
A total of 33 students who are studying the three modalities of the program (Official Master’s Degree, blended Master and online) enjoyed the study trip from 23 to 25 March. They spent three days together combining classes at Johan Cruyff Institute Amsterdam, guided tours of various facilities, interesting lectures and leisure time for socializing and sharing experiences with their fellow students.
Upon their arrival in Amsterdam and after a brief walk through the facilities of the Dutch Johan Cruyff Institute, the Olympic Museum welcomed the students for a guided tour of their mythical facilities. Back at the Institute, Daniel Marques, a former student and now part of the company Inmotiotec, was waiting for them to give a presentation on how his company works with ‘big data’ in collaboration with football teams such as Ajax of Amsterdam.
The next day, the second visit took them to the Amsterdam Arena, to get to know the day-to-day of a team like AFC Ajax, with explanations from Mark van Leest, former head of press and now in charge of the Information Office of the club, and Jeroen van Lersel, marketing manager of the Amsterdam Arena. The group then went to the facilities of SportClub Only Friends, a sports center fully adapted for children with disabilities, which they were told all about by its director, Dennis Gebbink, a former student of the Master in Sport Management in Amsterdam.
On Saturday morning, before going to catch the flight back to Barcelona, the students had time to have fun playing paddle tennis in the facilities of another former student of the Master in Sport Management Amsterdam, Marc Kluft. Marc told them how he has managed to make his business plan a reality and now earn his living as an entrepreneur. In June 2016, he opened Padel Dam, two mobile paddle courts currently located in the well-known SportPark De Eensdracht sports center in Amsterdam, which are enjoying an ever greater influx of players.
The students of the Master in Sport Management and the Master in Sport Marketing and Sponsorship have already returned to their classes, but for sure they will have many memories of this trip together. We hope that the study trip has accomplished its objective: to increase (even more if possible) the link between the sport management and sport marketing student groups, and to show that sport is an international language that encompasses different cultures from which you can also learn.
